How we created a collaborative campaign, hashtag and toolkit to inspire more people to study nursing and radiography in London.
London Higher represents universities and higher education colleges across the capital. As we’ve lots of experience of working on collaborative projects with multiple partners, they asked us to create a campaign to attract more students to nursing courses across London after numbers dropped following a post-pandemic surge.
The campaign was so successful, they then asked us to follow this up with a phase two, targeting three specific course areas – Adult Nursing, Learning Disabilities Nursing, and Diagnostic & Therapeutic Radiography.
We started by creating a clear rallying-cry hashtag #StudyNursingLondon. We then produced a toolkit of simple yet colourful templates with key messages that all of the partners could share and use to create their own socials and videos within the campaign style to maximise campaign reach.
For phase two, we focused on three course areas where application numbers were down. We aimed to reverse this by telling people more about what these specialist areas involved, the diverse career paths they opened up, and the different support they offered to everyone from finances to mental health.
We got across the key campaign messages in a hero film, and films for the individual course areas. We talked to current students on campuses in London who candidly shared their personal experiences and passion for healthcare This enabled us to show potential students what it’s like to study at university and go on healthcare placements whilst giving them many good reasons to study these courses.
This series of four films was supported by shorter social edits and an updated toolkit for all of the sector partners that included new messages, fresh quotes, written social posts, and social and video templates, colour-coded for the different course areas.
Whilst it’s too early to measure the impact on student numbers, the #StudyNursingLondon hashtag has featured in 350+ social posts by 110 different users, resulting in 2,199 engagements.
“It’s been a real pleasure working with the Waterfall team, and in particular Lexy, who were able to turn around the campaign on such short notice, being there every step of the way to support us in developing the best plan possible, and question where needed, in order to achieve the results we wanted. I really appreciated the team’s dedication to researching everything related to nursing as the terminology was definitely a challenge, but Lexy and the team navigated it brilliantly. Couldn’t recommend them highly enough!”
